This product would be best reviewed by listing its pros and cons right up front:PROS:1. It’s cheap. At the $16.24 price at the time I bought it the price is competitive with the no-name locks sold by the hardware store. But it is absolutely not worth the “list price” shown on this page.2. It’s simple to install. The knob part is pre-assembled so for a basic installation you need only to install (or replace) the bolt, striker plate and screw the two parts of the knob together.3. Its clean classic design doesn’t call attention to itself (see below for more details about this)CONS:1. The product is listed as a “Dexter by Schlage”. The product itself says nothing about Dexter and the Schlage name is the only name on the box or product, so I am reviewing this as a bona fide Schlage lock.2. The product is described as “always unlocked”. It is not. To unlock it you must use the key or the inside twist lock.3. This lock is extremely cheap feeling. I have been recently installing a lot of locks but this is the first I have bought that is described as being a Dexter. Using it is not smooth, it rattles and catches and the inside twist lock knob takes a lot of fiddling to turn it from lock to unlock and back.4. This is the lightest possible duty lock. I would never use it for an exterior door. I used it for an indoor closet to keep kids away from things. I chose this model because it looks and works like a standard doorknob and doesn’t have the look of an exterior door lock.5. I installed this next to a door that has a another brand “light commercial grade” lock and the difference in finish between the two is night and day. The other brand looks like a chunk of brushed nickel. The Schlage looks like the finish is painted on and will scratch soon. The price difference between the two locks was only a couple of dollars.6. While it is nice in a way that it is partially preassembled, most other brands let you attach the inner knob after you screw (or snap) the trim plate on. With this one you have to try to maneuver your screwdriver around the inside knob to get at the screw holes, which can scratch the knob and ends up mangling the phillips screws.Overall I am very disappointed in a lock that bears the Schlage name. This is the cheapest looking and feeling lock I have ever bought and I would not buy one again. I do not recommend it.Item was as described with good instruction.WorksClassy ,solid and now my other half wants one for our bedroom. The Best on the market! Does not compare to other locks--it stands alone! I don't work for them by the way!! : )I ordered this specifically because I needed a keyed entry knob that was always unlocked on the inside. The third bullet point says:Keyed entry function with turn button locking; can be unlocked by key outside or by turn button inside and inside is always unlockedIt is simply not true. The inside must be unlocked with the turn button, just like pretty much every other keyed entry knob out there.Good product , easy to install but can only turn one way with 3/4 . It turns both ways with 1/2.Fair price. Quick delivery to match the whole house!!
